Characteristic

Pharmacology

Mode action - Replenishing iron deficiency, anti-anemia.

Substrate provides synthesis of iron-containing metabolites. Iron is a part of hemoglobin, myoglobin, many enzymes. Under normal conditions, it comes with food, absorbed in the duodenum (only bivalent), transferred to tissue stores by transport proteins - transferrin. With iron deficiency (including insufficient food, impaired absorption, deficiency of transferrin, blood loss, parasitic infestations), hypochromic iron deficiency anemia and sidero-achestic syndrome develop.

Application of the substance Ferrous sulfate

Prevention and treatment of iron deficiency conditions caused by various causes: bleeding (including polymenorrhea, metrorrhagia, childbirth, hemorrhoids, peptic ulcer and duodenal ulcer, surgical interventions, frequent nasal bleeding, blood loss in other diseases); Increased need for iron (pregnancy, lactation, intensive growth, donation, burns, hemodialysis); Insufficiency of iron intake with food or impaired absorption (chronic diarrhea, achlorhydria, gastrectomy, celiac disease, Crohn's disease, enteritis, malabsorption syndrome).

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, a violation of iron metabolism in the body, hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis; Dysfunction of the gastrointestinal tract, preventing the absorption of iron; Aplastic and hemolytic anemia, thalassemia.

Side effects of the substance Ferrous sulfate

From the nervous system and sensory organs: headache, dizziness, weakness, irritability; Rarely - encephalopathy with epileptic syndrome.

From the cardiovascular system and blood (hematopoiesis, hemostasis): a feeling of pressure behind the sternum.

On the part of the intestine: nausea, vomiting, constipation / diarrhea, abdominal pain, toothache.

Allergic reactions: itching, rash; Rarely anaphylactic shock.

Other: skin hyperemia, sore throat.

Interaction

Reduces the activity of tetracyclines and penicillamine (with combined use in the gastrointestinal tract, poorly absorbed complexes are formed). Antacids reduce, and ascorbic acid increases the resorption of iron.

It is possible to stain the excrement in brown-black color, persistent darkening of the teeth.

Hepatic and / or renal failure increases the risk of cumulation of iron.
