Structure and Composition

1 ml of a sterile ophthalmic solution contains 0.5% or 1% tropicamide, in bottles of 15 ml with a Drop-Teiner dispenser.

pharmachologic effect

Pharmacological action - mydriatic.

It blocks m-holinoretseptory.

Clinical Pharmacology

Expands the pupil, causes paralysis of accommodation. The maximum dilatation of the pupil is observed 20-25 min after the instillation begins. Without the use of miotics, the initial width of the pupil is restored after 5-6 hours.

Indication

Creation of mydriasis and cycloplegia (in diagnostics in ophthalmology).

Contraindications

Closed-angle form of glaucoma.

Side effects

Transient burning sensation.

Dosing and Administration

A 0.5% solution is used in cases where only mydriasis is needed. To achieve cycloplegia, a 1% solution is needed. To study refraction of 1 or 2 drops of 1% solution, then instillation is repeated after 5 minutes. To prolong the effect, one more drop can be added. For the examination of the fundus 1-2 drops of 0.5% solution are enough for 15-20 minutes before the examination.

Precautionary measures

Apply with caution at increased or unmeasured intraocular pressure or in patients with a shallow anterior chamber.
