Composition and release form

1 bottle with lyophilized powder for the preparation of the injection solution contains 0.5 and 1 g sodium thiopental, in a cardboard bundle 1 bottle.

Dosing and Administration

IV or rectally. The solution is prepared immediately before use on sterile water for injection (solutions must be absolutely transparent).

For intravenous anesthesia in adults, 2-2.5% solutions are used, in children and weakened elderly patients - 1% solution.

For an introductory narcosis 2% solution of the drug is administered in an amount of 20-30 ml. The same amount is administered when the drug is used as an anesthetic in small operations. The maximum single dose for adults with / in - 1 g (50 ml of 2% solution). The solution of IV should be administered slowly, at a rate of no more than 1 ml / min. In the beginning, usually 2-3 ml are introduced, after 20-30 seconds - the rest. After the introduction of this dose, anesthesia usually lasts 20-50 minutes. It should be borne in mind that the achievement and maintenance of anesthesia of the required depth depends not only on the amount of the drug, but also on the individual sensitivity of the patient.

The use of the drug as a means for basic narcosis is especially indicated in children with increased nervous excitability and in patients with thyrotoxicosis. In such situations, the drug is administered rectally in the form of 5% warm (32-35 ° C) solution. For the basis of narcosis, it is recommended to inject the drug outside the operating room, which is familiar to the patient, and the situation. Children up to 3 years - at the rate of 0.04 g for 1 year of life, children 3-7 years - 0.05 g for 1 year of life.
