pharmachologic effect

Pharmacological action - anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, analgesic.

Inhibits cyclooxygenase and inhibits the biosynthesis of PG (prostaglandins). Reduces the intensity of inflammation, weakens or eliminates pain of moderate intensity.

Indication

Rheumatism, arthritis, incl. Rheumatoid, ankylosing spondylitis, gout, pain syndrome.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, incl. to other NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), erosive and ulcerative diseases of the digestive tract (gastrointestinal tract) in the phase of exacerbation, disturbances in the cellular composition of the blood of an unknown genesis (including history), severe liver and / or kidney dysfunction, children's and adolescence up to 14 years; inflammatory changes or bleeding in the rectum and anus (suppository): pregnancy, breastfeeding.

Side effects

Epigastric pain, belching, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract, stomatitis, liver and / or kidney dysfunction, shin and foot edema, headache, dizziness, weakness, sleep disorders, irritability, depression, hallucinations, cell disorders composition of peripheral blood (anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia), hemorrhages, skin rash, itching; pain and unpleasant sensation of heaviness in the anal region (suppositories).

Interaction

Glucocorticoids and / or other NSAIDs increase the likelihood of side effects from the gastrointestinal tract, anticoagulants - the risk of bleeding (requires blood coagulation control). Phenobarbital and acetylsalicylic acid lower the level of piroxicam in serum. The effect is enhanced by cimetidine and antacids, weakened by diuretics and antihypertensive drugs. Increases the concentration in the plasma of phenytoin, lithium, potassium and methotrexate.

Dosing and Administration

Inside, after eating (capsule); rectally, after the release of the intestine, as deep as possible into the rectum (suppositories). Usually - 20 mg (1 capsule or 1 soup.) Per day, if necessary - up to 40 mg (1 capsule or 1 supp., 2 times) per day. The maximum daily dose is 40 mg.

Precautionary measures

With extreme caution appoint for diseases of the digestive tract and / or intestines (ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease) in history, elevated blood pressure and / or heart failure.
