Characteristics of Bismuth subnitrate

A mixture of BiNO3 (OH) 2, BiONO3 and BiOOH, which is a white amorphous or fine crystalline powder. Virtually nerastvorim in water and alcohol, easily soluble in hydrochloric acid.

Pharmacology

Pharmacological action - anti-inflammatory, adsorptive, antacid, dermatoprotective, astringent, antimicrobial.

Coagulates proteins with the formation of dense albumin. Forms on the surface of the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract a protective film of denatured proteins, has a vasoconstrictive effect, reduces the local inflammatory process, suppresses the growth and development of Helicobacter pylori. The severity of antacid effects is small.

Application of Bismuth subnitrate

Inflammatory diseases of the skin and mucous membranes (dermatitis, ulcers, erosion, eczema); gastroduodenitis, gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, reflux esophagitis, enteritis, colitis.

Restrictions for use

Hypersensitivity, renal failure.

Side effects

Headache, edema of the eyelids and gums, vesicles and pigmentation in the tongue, nausea, vomiting, methemoglobinemia.

Interaction

Compatible with anticholinergic, spasmolytic drugs, often used for peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum. With the simultaneous administration of tetracyclines, the formation of nonabsorbable complexes is possible.
