Instruction for use: Rauwolfia alkaloids (Rauwolfia alkaloids)

Characteristic

Sum of alkaloids from the roots of Rauwolfia (reserpine, serpentine, aymalin etc.). The total alkaloid content on a dry substance - at least 90%.

Pharmacological action

Herbal drug possesses antihypertensive and antiarrhythmic action. Sedative effect is less pronounced than those of reserpine, but the hypotensive action of reserpine almost equal, thus better tolerated in some cases. The hypotensive effect is slower than that of reserpine.

Indications

Hypertension (mild to moderate).

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, hypotension, depression, failure of the coronary circulation, organic lesion infarction, aortic defects, peptic ulcer and 12 duodenal ulcer, nephrosclerosis, pregnancy (III trimester), age 18 years.

Dosing

Inside, after a meal. The first day of taking one tablet (2 mg - based on the sum of alkaloids) overnight; on day 2 - 2 1 tablet twice daily on day 3 - 3 tablets, gradually bringing to a total dose of 4-6 tablets per day.

After achieving a therapeutic effect (10-14 days) gradually reduce the dose of 1-2 tablets per day.

Side effect

The swelling of nasal mucosa, increased sweating, fatigue, false angina, bradycardia, depression, decreased libido.

Interaction

Can be used simultaneously or sequentially with other antihypertensive drugs (ganglioblokatorami, hydrochlorothiazide, hydralazine, etc.)..

Be wary appointed in conjunction with quinidine, guanethidine, cardiac glycosides, beta-blockers (risk of increased severity of negative chrono and dromotropic action).
