Tabex N-cholinomimetic. The drug is of plant origin, containing an alkaloid isolated from the plant Cytisus laburnum (rakitnik). The mechanism of action is similar to nicotine, but has a greater therapeutic latitude.
Stimulates nicotinic receptors in autonomic ganglia, irritate the chemoreceptors of the carotid sinus and triggers the release of adrenaline from the adrenal glands. Increases blood PRESSURE and reflex by stimulating breathing.
When Smoking while taking Tabex, the effect of nicotine is combined with the effect of cytisine, which leads to the appearance of unpleasant symptoms of nicotine overdose. This causes the patient to gradually give up Smoking, without experiencing withdrawal symptoms, because the action of nicotine is replaced by the action of cytisine.
Indications:
Chronic nicotinism (for withdrawal from Smoking).
Contraindications:
Caution: ischaemic heart disease (stable angina, asymptomatic (silent) myocardial ischemia, vasospastic angina, syndrome "X" (microvascular angina); heart failure; high blood pressure; vascular disease of the brain; arterial occlusive diseases; hyperthyroidism; peptic ulcer; diabetes; kidney or liver failure; certain forms of schizophrenia; the presence of chromaffin tumors of the adrenal glands; gastroesophageal reflux disease; those with a long Smoking history, and older than 40-45 years.
The use of the drug in patients with diseases listed in the section with caution is possible only after consulting a doctor.
Special instruction:
The drug should be used only if the patient has a serious and conscious intention to quit Smoking.
The patient should be warned that the use of the drug against the background of continued Smoking can lead to nicotine intoxication.
There is no sufficient clinical experience in the use of Tabex in patients with coronary artery disease, heart failure, cerebrovascular diseases, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, renal and liver failure. These categories of patients should be prescribed the drug only after assessing the benefit/risk ratio.
Impact on the ability to drive and operate machinery
The drug does not cause changes in the psychophysical condition of the patient, does not violate the ability to drive and work with mechanisms.
Suggested Use:
Tabex is administered in a period of 3 days on 1 tab. 6 times / day (after 2 hours) with a parallel reduction in the number of cigarettes smoked. If after 3 days there is no result from treatment, the drug should be discontinued and after 2-3 months to start a new course.
