Composition and release form

Pharmacological action - antidepressant.

Indications for the Prozac

Depression, bulimia nervosa, obsessive-compulsive disorder (obsessive thoughts and actions).

Hypersensitivity.

Side effects

At the beginning of therapy and with increasing doses, anxiety and irritability, sleep disturbances, drowsiness, headache, nausea may appear; less often - vomiting and diarrhea. Perhaps the development of anorexia and a decrease in body weight, as well as the appearance of hyponatremia, especially in elderly patients. Rarely, the onset of convulsive seizures. Interaction

Incompatible with MAO inhibitors (from the moment of stopping the intake of MAO inhibitors before the start of therapy should be at least 14 days, after the abolition of fluoxetine, a new method of MAO inhibitors is allowed, at least, after 5 weeks). Changes the level of lithium in the blood. In combination with tryptophan and phenytoin, the risk of side effects increases.

Dosing and Administration

Inside, with depression, the initial dose is 20 mg / day. Increase in the dose (in the absence of clinical effect) is possible in a few weeks, after consulting a doctor. Doses over 20 mg / day are taken in 2 divided doses. Patients with severe impairment of liver or kidney function are recommended to reduce the daily dose. With bulimia nervosa - daily dose of 60 mg (in 3 divided doses). The maximum daily dose should not exceed 80 mg. In obsessive-compulsive disorders, 20-60 mg / day.
