Characteristics of substance Meclozine
The powder is white-yellow, with a faint odor. Soluble in water (weakly), alcohol and dichloromethane, practically insoluble in ether.
Pharmacology
Pharmacological action - antiallergic, antihistamine, antiemetic.
It blocks H1-histamine receptors, reduces the vasodilator and spasmogenic effect of histamine. Has a weak cholinolytic activity. Efficacy at dizziness, nausea and vomiting, possibly, is caused by interaction with peripheral labyrinth structures.
After a single oral intake, the effect develops within 1 hour and lasts up to 24 hours (T1 / 2 - about 6 hours). Long-term experience with nausea and vomiting in pregnant women showed no signs of teratogenic effects. In studies on animals, the teratogenic effect was observed only in rats with high doses (25-50 mg / kg), in other experimental animals, including monkeys, it was absent.
Application of the substance Meclozine
Nausea, vomiting and dizziness (including with kinetosis, Meniere's syndrome, labyrinthine and vestibular disorders, vertigo); Allergic reactions of immediate type (including skin diseases accompanied by itching).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, children under 12 years of age (safety and efficacy in children are not defined).
Restrictions
Bronchial asthma, glaucoma, enlarged prostate, pregnancy.
Application in pregnancy and breastfeeding
Perhaps only if the expected effect of therapy exceeds the potential risk to the fetus.
The action category for fetus by FDA is B.
Side effects of Meclozine
From the nervous system: fatigue, drowsiness, in children - sometimes increased excitability, rarely - blurred vision.
On the part of the intestine: dry mouth, vomiting.
Interaction
Strengthens the action of deprimiruyuschih funds, including barbiturates, alcohol, tranquilizers and sedatives. MAO inhibitors prolong and intensify the cholinolytic effects of meclosin.
Overdose
Symptoms: in adults - CNS depression, drowsiness, coma, convulsions; In elderly patients - arterial hypotension; In children - cholinolytic effects and CNS excitement (hallucinations, sleep disorders, convulsions).
Treatment: induction of vomiting (if no more than 1 hour has elapsed since the intake), gastric lavage, the appointment of activated charcoal; Symptomatic and supportive therapy; When hypotension - the introduction of vasopressor drugs (except adrenaline), to reduce the anticholinergic effects - physostigmine, with the aim of arresting seizures of diazepam (IV).
Routes of administration
Inside.
Precautions for the substance Meclozine
With caution apply during work drivers of vehicles and people whose profession is associated with increased concentration of attention. It is necessary to avoid drinking alcohol during treatment.
