Characteristics of substance Hydrotalcite

An antacid.

Pharmacology

Pharmacological action - antacid, gastroprotective.

Has an astringent and moderate laxative effect. Quickly and continuously (for several hours) neutralizes the hydrochloric acid of gastric juice; maintains the pH at a level close to normal; binds pepsin and increases the activity of the protective factors of the gastric mucosa.

The release of Mg2 + and Al3 + occurs in the stomach gradually, depending on the pH value. Absorbed slightly, mainly in the small intestine. After ingestion, the content of Mg2 + and Al3 + in the plasma temporarily increases, but penetration into the nerve and bone tissue does not occur (with normal kidney function). The absorbed part is excreted by the kidneys.

The effect develops 30 minutes after ingestion and lasts 4-5 hours.

Application of Hydrotalcite

Giperacidnost gastric juice, heartburn, gastritis, peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum, reflux-esophagitis, dyspeptic phenomena.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, violation of excretory function of the kidneys, children's age (up to 6 years).

Side effects

Belching, constipation; when taken in high doses, diarrhea may occur.

Interaction

Hydrotalcite reduces the absorption of tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones (ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin), iron preparations, coumarin derivatives, chenodeoxycholic acid, cimetidine and digoxin (the interval between doses should be 1-2 h). Reduces the toxic effect of NSAIDs on the digestive tract.

Routes of administration

Inside.

Precautions for Substance Hydrotalcite

To achieve high effectiveness of treatment, it is necessary to combine the reception of hydrotalcite with drugs blocking acid production.
