Russian wrestler David Chakvetadze became the Olympic winner of the tournament in the weight category up to 85 kg
In the final competition in Greco-Roman wrestling David Chakvetadze with a score of 9: 2 defeated Jean Belenyuka from Ukraine. Bronze in the match for third place won Cavit Gamzatov Belarusian and German Denis Kudla.
"The situation with Meldonium (Mildronate) does not affect my training. We knew all that clean, and believed in innocence. Therefore, I am absolutely not nervous and continued to prepare "- said the Olympic champion.
David Chakvetadze in the semifinals defeated Hungarian Victor Lorincha with a score of 7: 1. In the quarterfinals, the Russians were stronger Denis Kudla of Germany, and in the early stages Chakvetadze won two representatives of Iran.
This medal was the 10th gold of the Russian team at the Olympics in Rio. Earlier in the Greco-Roman wrestling in the weight category up to 75 kg was won by Roman Vlasov. David Chakvetadze for the Olympic Games in Rio went as European champion. In 2015 he won the European Games in Baku. At the World Cup in 2015 in Los Angeles, Chakvetadze won the silver medal.
In the team event the Russian team took fourth place. At the Olympic Games in Rio, Russian athletes won ten gold, twelve silver and eleven bronze medals. Four years ago at the Olympics in London, the Russian wrestlers won 11 medals, four of which were gold.
