Povetkin and Meldonium
15 May 2016
Columnist of "Sportfact" Alexander Belenky, shares his views on what it means to detect meldonium in doping sample of Alexander Povetkin for the week before the fight with Wilder.
In the doping sample of Alexander Povetkin was found Meldonium. A few months ago, most of our compatriots this name meant nothing, but now every other sandbox kindergartners discuss Meldonium and quality in the smallest details. But it doesn’t matter. The matter is that the scheduled May 21 fight with the world champion of the WBC heavyweight Deontay Wilder in jeopardy.
First of all, I try to summarize all that we know about Meldonium (mildronate 500mg), according to Russian media.
First, it is absolutely does not affect the physical form of athletes, especially Russian athletes. Though ladle up and eat. And why everyone takes Mildronate? Because of that. Everyone eats Potatoes, but no one has called potatoes doping.
Second, Meldonium excretion from the body ranges from 24 hours to one year. It's not artistic exaggeration, but it is what I read in different sources.
Third, I read lots of different opinions in web that will the battle take place or not. The same people who usually defend the two points of view simultaneously. This is done as follows: the highest possible intellectual squint, which direct light between the lines, they say something like: "Everything depends on different factors, but it can be quite hard to say that there will be one of two things: either the fight will take place or do not take place."
I like a blunt two mutually exclusive views of the head does not fit. Generally, it is in two half-ass, and his head still and single one. Therefore, I say that the only opinion, for which there was a place. I believe that the battle will not be. In any case, it will not May 21 as the sports officials, like all officials, so quickly do not chew snot. For a week, the rest before that date, they do not have time to pour all of a sieve to make an informed decision, and therefore - it is easier to deny. In any case, to issue a warrant to the fight, despite the fact that it is known that one of the participants failed a doping test, it is for them too bold decision, which would have marked the beginning of a new era not only in boxing but also in world sport. So I would not have flattered themselves with the hope. I was glad to be wrong, because I think that Povetkin was good, around 50 per cent chance of winning over Wilder.
Statements that meldonium content in a blood sample taken was insignificant, only 70 nanograms, I suspect nothing will change. Yes, meldonium was clarifying what is permissible where more of its content, but in samples taken before 1 March. For those who do not see the difference between March 1 and the end of April or beginning of May, when, as far as we know, and sample from Povetkin has been taken, it does not change anything, but they will not make a decision.
In general, we should wait and see. Only I'm afraid that nothing good we wouldl not see anyway. Fight - so sure. And my deep and sincere sympathy to Alexander Povetkin. Since I know the sport kitchen, I believe that there is no his guilt in the incident. Under that I subscribe.
