Tobrex 2X (Tobramycin) eye drops - is an antibacterial drug with a broad spectrum of action of the aminoglycoside series, which is used in ophthalmology for topical treatment of eye infections.
Active active substance of the drug is a broad-spectrum antibiotic of the aminoglycoside group. At a low concentration, bacteriostatic action (blockade of the 30S subunit of the ribosome and impairment of protein production), at a high concentration, possesses bactericidal properties, caused by a disruption of cytoplasmic membrane function and, as a result, death of microbial cells.
It has a high activity against staphylococci (including golden and epidermal staphylococcus, as well as strains that are resistant to penicillin), streptococci (including ab-hemolytic and some non-hemolytic species, as well as pneumococci), Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, enterobacter , Klebsiella pneumonia, mirabilis protein (indole-negative) and indole-positive proteas, hemophilic rods, acitetobacter, microorganisms of the genus Moraxella, and some species of Neisseria species (including Neisseria Gonorrhoeae).
There is a similarity in the spectrum of action of tobramycin and gentamicin, but the former has activity against certain strains of bacteria resistant to gentamicin and is used in cases where the effectiveness of neomycin-containing eye drops is insufficient. In comparison with other preparations of antibacterial action, the effect of using Tobrex 2x is most pronounced in infectious diseases caused by pseudomonas (Pseudomonas).
Eye drops Tobrex 2x and Tobrex, having in their composition the same basic active substance - tobramycin, have a similar effect. The difference between these preparations is a different consistency of the solution. The solution of Toxx 2x is more dense, due to which the active substance remains in the conjunctival cavity much longer than with the use of Tobrex.
