Sulfacyl sodium eye drops - is an antimicrobial agent for topical use in ophthalmology. Used for the treatment of infectious inflammatory diseases of the eye (keratitis, conjunctivitis, corneal ulcers, etc.) and adnexa (blepharitis, styes, etc.). This tool has a low cost and a wide predstavlennost in pharmacies, however, with the wide use of antimicrobial drugs, more and more pathogens become resistant to the action of sodium Sulfatsil.
Has a broad spectrum of antimicrobial action. Has bacteriostatic action. The mechanism of action is competitive antagonism with PABA and competitive inhibition of dihydropteridine, which leads to disruption of the synthesis of tetrahydrofolic acid required for the synthesis of purines and pyrimidines.
Sulfacetamide active against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria (including pathogenic cocci, Escherichia coli), Chlamydia spp., Actinomyces spp.
Pharmacokinetics
The local application penetrates the tissues and fluids of the eyes. Absorbed into the systemic circulation through an inflamed conjunctiva.
Indications:
Purulent corneal ulcers, conjunctivitis, blepharitis, gonorrheal diseases of the eyes in newborns and adults, prevention of blenarea in newborns.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to sulfacetamide and other sulfanilamide preparations.
Special instructions:
Patients who are hypersensitive to furosemide, thiazide diuretics, sulfonyl urea or inhibitors of carbonic anhydrase, may have increased sensitivity to sulfacetamide.
Suggested Use:
Apply 2-3 drops in the lower conjunctival sac of each eye 5-6 times / day.
For the prevention of blennery, newborns are instilled in the eyes 2 drops of solution immediately after birth and 2 drops every 2 hours.
