Pilocarpine eye drops - is an alkaloid-based drug used in ophthalmology to reduce intraocular pressure and narrowing of the pupil in glaucoma, examination of the organ of vision and after surgical interventions. Sufficiently long and effectively used in ophthalmic practice.
Pilocarpine is an M-cholinomimetic. When instillation in the eye, the drug causes a narrowing of the pupil with a simultaneous decrease in intraocular pressure and an improvement in the trophism of the tissues. When instilled into the conjunctival sac, the eye in normal concentrations is little absorbed and has no pronounced systemic effect.
Indications:
The drug is widely used in ophthalmology to reduce intraocular pressure in open-angle glaucoma; to improve the trophism of the eye in thrombosis of the central vein of the retina; with acute retinal artery obstruction; in cases of optic nerve atrophy; with hemorrhages in the vitreous body; for the termination of mydriatic action of atropine.
Contraindications:
Treatment with pilocarpine is contraindicated in iritis, iridocyclitis, as well as other diseases in which miosis is undesirable.
Suggested Use:
A solution of pilocarpine is buried in the conjunctival sac 1-2 drops 2-4 times a day. In case of inefficiency, a solution of a higher concentration is prescribed.
