Oftan Timogel gel for eye - is a local drug for the treatment of glaucoma. Due to the inhibitory effect on beta-adrenoreceptors, it causes a decrease in the volume of the intraocular fluid and leads to a decrease in pressure.

Oftan Timogel - antiglaukomny drug, non-selective beta-blocker. Reduces increased intraocular pressure by reducing the production of aqueous humor. Like other beta-blockers, timolol has a negligible effect on the system of outflow of intraocular fluid. Has a weak anesthetic effect and does not affect pupil size and accommodation.

The effect of reducing intraocular pressure is achieved under the condition of instillation of the preparation Ofthan Timogel in 1 drop / day. The maximum decrease in intraocular pressure develops a few hours after instillation and persists for 24 hours.

Pharmacokinetics

Suction

Timolol can be systemically absorbed through the vessels of the conjunctiva, the nasal mucosa and the lacrimal tract and, thus, reach the systemic blood flow. Very rarely, the serum level is determined within 90 minutes after instillation.

Excretion

However, timolol is defined in the minimum concentration in the urine for a longer time. Excreted in breast milk.

Indications:

• Increased intraocular pressure (ophthalmic hypertension).
• Open angle glaucoma.

Contraindications:

• Dystrophic processes in the cornea.

Special instructions:

With the development of dermatological reactions, possibly associated with the use of the drug, treatment with Oftan Timogel should be stopped immediately.

Benzalkonium chloride, which is part of the eye gel, Oftan Timogel, can cause allergic reactions in sensitive patients.

Patients with heart failure should be examined before starting treatment with the drug Oftan Timogel. Patients with other severe cardiovascular diseases require a checkup to identify possible symptoms of latent heart failure and a regular heart rate and blood pressure.

To reduce the increased intraocular pressure with angle-closure glaucoma, Oftan Timogel should be administered in combination with miotics. As with the use of other antiglaucoma drugs, after long-term treatment, there are cases of no response to timolol maleate.

When applying the drug Oftan Timogel, it is necessary to monitor the function of lacrimation, the state of the cornea and to assess the magnitude of the visual fields at least once every 6 months.

Any eye drops should be used before the instillation of the drug Oftan Timogel. To maintain its activity, the interval between instillations of other eye drops and Oftan Timogel should be at least 5 minutes.

Regular monitoring of intraocular pressure every 3-4 weeks is necessary.

Before applying the eye gel, it is necessary to remove contact lenses and do not use them for 15 minutes after instillation of the drug.

Impact on the ability to drive vehicles and manage mechanisms

Effect of the drug Oftan Timogel on the ability to drive vehicles and / or work with mechanisms has not been studied. Such side effects of the drug Oftan Timogel, as a short-term decrease in visual acuity, ptosis, visual impairment, including changes in refraction and diplopia, dizziness and fatigue, can adversely affect the ability to manage motor vehicles and other potentially hazardous activities requiring increased concentration and speed psychomotor reactions.
