Structure and Composition

Blocks beta1- and beta2-adrenergic receptors. When instillation into the conjunctival sac lowers intraocular pressure by decreasing the formation of intraocular fluid and improve its drainage. It has no intrinsic sympathomimetic and membrane stabilizing activity.

pharmacodynamics

Reducing the intraocular pressure begins within 20 min after instillation, the maximum effect is observed after 1-2 hours duration - 24 hours.

Indications

Chronic open-angle glaucoma, secondary glaucoma (uveal, afakicheskaya, posttraumatic), ocular hypertension, angle-closure glaucoma (in combination with miotikami), congenital glaucoma, the ineffectiveness of other therapeutic measures within the time necessary to prepare for the surgery.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the drug, asthma, chronic obstructive bronchitis, sinus bradycardia (50 or less beats per minute), AV blockade II and III level, heart failure, cardiogenic shock, severe corneal dystrophy, rhinitis.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

Not recommended.

Side effects

Local reactions: redness eyelid skin, burning and itchy eyes, watery eyes, photophobia, conjunctival hyperemia, intermittent swelling of the corneal epithelium; rarely - superficial punctate keratopathy (reduced corneal transparency), diplopia, ptosis, decreased corneal sensitivity.

Systemic reactions: bradycardia, bradyarrhythmia, decreased blood pressure, dizziness, nausea, headache, muscle weakness, insomnia, bronchospasm.

Interaction

Compatible with all antiglaucoma drugs. Pilocarpine, epinephrine, acetazolamide potentiate the effect of the drug. With simultaneous use of beta-blockers in and timolol locally possible mutual reinforcement effects. The ingestion of calcium antagonists (corinfar et al.), Rauwolfia drugs increases the likelihood of severe hypotension, bradycardia. It enhances the effect of peripheral muscle relaxants (drug should be discontinued 48 hours prior to anesthesia).

Dosing and Administration
