Infusion of leaves of plantain large strengthens the secretion of bronchial glands, has mucolytic, anti-inflammatory effect, stimulates the secretion of gastric juice, increases its acidity.

Indications

As an expectorant in the complex therapy of respiratory diseases (including: bronchitis, tracheitis).

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to plantain large. Hyper secretion of gastric juice. hyperacid gastritis. peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum in the period of exacerbation.

Application during pregnancy and during breastfeeding is possible. It is necessary to consult a doctor.

Dosing and Administration

About 10 grams (2 tablespoons) of ground large plantain leaves are placed in enameled pots, poured into 200 ml (1 glass) of hot boiled water, covered with a lid and heated in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes, then cooled at room temperature for 45 minutes, filtered, left raw materials squeeze out. The volume of the infusion obtained is adjusted to 200 ml with boiled water.

Infusion is taken orally 30 minutes before meals for 7-10 days; children up to 3 years - 1 teaspoon 2 times a day, children from 3 to 6 years - 1 teaspoon 3 times a day, children from 6 to 12 years - 2 teaspoons 3 times a day, children over 12 years and adults - 1 tablespoon 2-3 times a day.

Before use, the infusion is recommended to be shaken.

Side effects

Allergic reactions are possible, in rare cases - heartburn.

Overdose

It is possible to increase the severity of the side effect - heartburn.

Treatment: symptomatic.

Interaction

Infusion should not be used simultaneously with antitussive drugs, as well as with drugs that reduce the formation of sputum, as this makes it difficult to cough thinners sputum.
