Characteristics of Mefenamic acid

Pharmacology

Pharmacological action - anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, analgesic.

Affects the phases of exudation and proliferation. Stabilizes protein ultrastructure and cell membranes, reduces vascular permeability and swelling of tissues. It inhibits the proliferation of cells in the inflammation focus, increases cell resistance and stimulates wound healing. In the analgesic effect, along with the influence on the central mechanisms of pain sensitivity, a significant role is played by local effects on the inflammation focus, the ability to inhibit the algogenicity of endogenous substances (kinins, histamine, serotonin). Side effects of Mefenamic acid

Interaction

Salicylates and metamizole sodium increase the anti-inflammatory effect. Thiamine, pyridoxine, barbiturates, phenothiazine derivatives, narcotic analgesics, caffeine, phenacetin, diphenhydramine potentiate analgesia. Prolongs prothrombin time and increases the effectiveness of oral anticoagulants.

Precautions for Mefenamic acid
