Characteristics of the substance Ethanol

Transparent, colorless, mobile, volatile liquid with a characteristic alcohol smell and burning taste. It is easily ignited, burns with a bluish smokeless flame. Miscible in all proportions with water, glycerin, ether.

Pharmacology

Pharmacological action - disinfectant, antiseptic, locally irritating.

Coagulates proteins. It is active against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and viruses. The greatest antiseptic effect on the skin and mucous membranes is achieved with the use of 70% solutions. Has a tanning effect on the skin and mucous membranes.

Manufacturing of tinctures, extracts and dosage forms for external use - wipes, compresses.

Hypersensitivity.

For compresses (to avoid burns), ethanol should be diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 1.
