Description of Ergotamine

Pharmacological action. Natural ergot alkaloid; It has a vasoconstrictor, uterotoniziruyuschee action. It has a small alpha-adrenergic and serotoninblokiruyuschim action. Enhances the rhythmic contractions of the uterus and increases its tone, affect the cerebral circulation.

Indications. Metrorrhagia (hypo or atonic myometrium during or after caesarean section); lohiometra; subinvoljutcija uterus after childbirth and abortion; dysfunctional metrorrhagia (uterine fibroids); Migraine (prodromal period or at the beginning of the attack).

Contraindications. Hypersensitivity, pregnancy, childbirth (I-II periods), lactation, sepsis, cardiovascular disease (angina, peripheral arterial disease), renal and / or hepatic insufficiency, hypertension, later stages of atherosclerosis, GCS; migraine, accompanied by focal neurological disorders.

Dosing. Inside, 1 mg 2-3 times a day for 10-15 cap or a 0.1% solution (or cap 40 0.025% solution) 1-3 times a day. The highest single dose - 2 mg daily - 4 mg.

Subdermal orintramusculary , 0.5-1 ml of a 0.05% solution. In urgent cases - in / in slowly, 0.5 ml of a 0.05% solution. The highest single dose of parenteral administration - 0.5 mg daily - 2 mg.

Migraine: 15-20 cap of 0.1% of the solution for a few hours before the expected attack. In the early phase of pain can be taken sublingually 4.2 mg after 2 hours - 2 mg to decrease pain, but not more than 10 mg / day.

In severe migraine attack - a / m, 0.5-1 ml of a 0.05% solution.

Side effect. Nausea, vomiting, increased blood pressure, weakness in the legs, tremors of fingers, false angina, tachycardia or bradycardia, diarrhea, Leriche syndrome (sharp cyanosis, lack of pulse in the lower extremities, pain, sensitivity infringement on the distal type).

Interaction. The vasoconstrictor effect of the drug increase adrenostimulyatorov alpha, beta-blockers and nicotine. Macrolides increase toxicity of ergotamine.

Special instructions. In order to avoid the phenomena of ergotism it is not recommended for long-term ergotamine (after 7 days of treatment make a break for 3-4 days).
