Pharmacological action - analgesic, distracting.

Irritates sensitive skin receptors, dilates capillaries.

Pharmacodynamics

Causes a feeling of warmth (menthol). Due to the warming effect it reduces stress, spasm, pain, increases blood flow and facilitates the removal of irritating substances (lactic acid); increases the amount of movement. Effects are manifested in the underlying organs - joints, muscles, tendons, some internal organs. Methyl salicylate, absorbed through the skin, can reduce pain.

Ben-Gay

Pain in the joints and muscles, incl. with inflammation, joint stiffness; pain in the lumbosacral spine caused by stretching; Intensive exercise and physical training (sports balsam).

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, open wounds, skin irritation, children under 12 years of age (for balm sports and ointments); pregnancy.

Side effects

Skin irritation, allergic reactions: urticaria, erythema.

Dosing and Administration

Locally. Ben-Gay: a large amount of cream rubbed into the painful areas of the skin. The cream is quickly absorbed through the skin. If necessary, repeat the procedure in a few hours (up to 3-4 times a day).

Ben-Gay sports balm: a large amount of balm is rubbed into the muscles. If necessary, repeat the procedure up to 3-4 times a day.

Precautionary measures

It is not recommended to use with warming compresses. If skin irritation occurs, discontinue use. Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes, skin irritation. If the pain persists for more than 10 days after using the ointment, you should consult a doctor. Lactating women during treatment must stop breastfeeding.
