Russian swimmer Gregory Tarasevich passed a positive doping test for Meldonium (Mildronate), but he will not be disqualified, as he took the substance before 1 January 2016 - until the date of the prohibition of using meldonium World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the official website of the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).
Tarasevich passed a positive doping test March 4, 2016.
The investigation revealed that a prescription for Meldonium gave the doctor to Tarasiewich in June 2015. Athlete himself said that he last used the substance at the beginning of October 2015. After consideration of the case USADA concluded that Tarasevich took Meldonium until 1 January 2016 year. Thus, in connection with the recommendations of WADA, he will not be disqualified, but the results will be canceled from March 4, 2016. Including the athlete will be required to return the prize money won by that date.
Since the beginning of the year in the use Meldonium (Mildronate), which is included in the WADA list of prohibited substances as from 1 January 2016, were convicted of 40 Russian athletes. Among them, Maria Sharapova, swimmer Yulia Efimova, skater Ekaterina Bobrova, skater Paul Pavel Kulizhnikov, short trekisty Semen Yelistratov and Ekaterina Konstantinova, volleyball player Alexander Markin, biathlete Eduard Latypov, rugby Alain and Alex Mihaltsovy, bobsledder Nadezhda Sergeeva, cyclist Eduard Vorganov, wrestlers Greco-Roman wrestler Eugene fat and Sergey Semenov, athletes Minzhulin Andrew Nadezhda Kotljarova, cyclists Anastasia Chulkov Paul Yakushevsky, water polo player Alex Bugaychuk, skeletonist Pavel Kulikov, gymnast Nikolai Kuksenkov boxer Igor Mikhalkin. Later, a part of the suspension was lifted athletes due Meldonium in connection with the new WADA research on this drug.
WADA decided that the athletes will not be excluded if their samples taken from 1 March 2016 to 30 September 2016, contains 1 microgram of matter. Beginning October 1, 2016, any meldonium content in the body of the athlete will be considered prohibited.
